Linda Caplan, owner of Freedom Hills Weimaraners and Dog Training, has been a part of the dog fancy since 1976 when she entered her first obedience competition. She currently shares her life with three weimaraners and is very active in the breed ring showing her own, and clients dogs. She has been breeding for twenty years and has approximately one litter per year. Linda's accomplishments include titles in obedience, breed and hunting. Several of her weimaraners have achieved Top 10 status for obedience and also bench. Linda and her dogs have participated in pet therapy, TV commercials and public demonstrations. In 1991, she received an honorable mention from the Dog Writers Association of America for the Motivational Agility Training Video co-produced with Suzanne Clothier.
Freedom Hills Dog Training travels to you! Since so many issues take place in the home, working with the family and their dog in this environment is beneficial. Her specialty is solving behavior problems, focusing on specific issues in the home environment and working with the whole family. Group classes are held at My Dog's Place located in Mystic and Niantic, Ct.
Linda has trained thousands of dogs. She has worked with puppies, adolescents and adult dogs and has taught classes and privates in basic and advanced manners, competition obedience, breed handling , CGC, preagility and beginner agility. She has also trained several dogs to aide the physically challenged; including an epilepsy alert dog.
Linda has been training dogs for 30 years and is a member of the National Association for Dog Obedience Instructors and Association of Pet Dog Trainers. She founded Canine Companions Dog Training Center in Colchester, Vt and fulfilled the role of training director for 16 years. Today, the center is still in operation.
Linda believes in a positive approach to training and uses kind, no force methods. The clicker is used as a training tool to mark good behaviors. Food, toys, petting and praise are used as reinforcers. Management skills are also taught to help promote positive behaviors and a trusting relationship.
